Change of Conductor [June Subscription Program A on June 7 (Sat.) & 8 (Sun.)]

Vladimir Fedoseyev, who was to conduct the concerts, will not be able to visit Japan due to health reasons. Therefore, Juanjo Mena, who has been scheduled to conduct Program B, will also take the baton for Program A. The program and the rest of the artists remain the same. Please kindly note that there will be no refunds for the change of conductor.

We apologize to those who were looking forward to the collaboration of the NHK Symphony Orchestra and Mo. Fedoseyev, but your kind understanding is highly appreciated.

Juanjo Mena was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz, one of the central cities on the Spanish side of the Basque Country, which straddles Spain and France, and has developed a unique culture. He began his music studies at a local conservatory, then studied conducting with Enrique García Asensio at the Madrid Royal Conservatory. After graduation, he went to Germany to study under the tutelage of Sergiu Celibidache for eight years. In 1999, he was appointed Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, a leading orchestra in the Basque Country. After that, he continuously served as Chief Guest Conductor of the Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Principal Guest Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic in Norway, Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic (in Manchester), and Principal Conductor of the Cincinnati May Festival while guest-conducting the world's renowned orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He worked with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in January of 2017 and 2021, and June 2025, which is his third appearance with the orchestra, he will conduct Program A, a Russian program combining Rakhmaninov and Tchaikovsky, as well as Program B, which includes Bruckner's 6th Symphony.
