October Concerts under Herbert Blomstedt (follow up)
Herbert Blomstedt, Honorary Conductor Laureate of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, who was scheduled to conduct eight concerts in October 2023, has decided to comply with the advice of his doctor to cancel his trip to Japan due to health reasons.
Of the eight concerts, we have already announced that Subscription Concerts Program A (Saturday October 14 & Sunday October 15 at NHK Hall) have been canceled. The remaining six concerts will be performed as follows.
We sincerely apologize to those who were looking forward to the collaboration of Herbert Blomstedt and NHK Symphony Orchestra but your kind understanding is highly appreciated.

Biographies
Ken Takaseki, conductor(Program C)

Ken Takaseki has served in important positions of major orchestras in Japan, and currently he is Principal Conductor of the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, Chief Conductor of the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Symphony Orchestra. He has often guest-conducted orchestras overseas as well, and in 2017 he appeared with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra to conduct its subscription concert. He also actively works in operatic performances, including Ikuma Dan's Yuzuru (Evening Crane) in Russia in 2019, and Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol at the New National Theatre, Tokyo. In 1977, he won the Karajan Conductor Competition Japan and the 50th Suntory Music Award in 2021. He works with the NHK Symphony Orchestra on a regular basis, and led the orchestra’s tour in South Korea in 1993.

Tadaaki Otaka studied conducting under the tutelage of Hideo Saito at the Toho Gakuen School of Music, and with Hans Swarowsky atTadaaki Otaka studied conducting under the tutelage of Hideo Saito at the Toho Gakuen School of Music, and with Hans Swarowsky at University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . He was appointed as Permanent Conductor of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra (now Conductor Laureate), he then continuously served in such positions as Permanent Conductor (now Honorary Guest Conductor) of Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Principal Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (now Conductor Laureate), and Artistic Director of the New National Theatre. He has been Music Director of the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra since 2018. He has also been keen on training the next generation of artists, and he assumed the position of the chairperson of the Panel of Judges of the Tokyo International Music Competition for Conducting in 2021. His first collaboration with the NHK Symphony Orchestra was in 1971 when he conducted the orchestra in a public recording for broadcast, and since then, he has repeatedly returned to the orchestra’s podium, and became the orchestra’s Permanent Conductor in 2010.
