Born in Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, Alexey Tikhomirov became a soloist of the Helikon Opera in Moscow in 2005. Since then, he has performed at the world’s most prominent opera houses, including the Bolshoi Theatre, Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Staatsoper Hamburg, Oper Frankfurt, Theater an der Wien, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Teatro Real de Madrid, and Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. Blessed with a voice of depth combined with clarity, he has sung a wide range of roles such as Knight Commander in Don Giovanni, Basilio in The Barber of Seville, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Fasolt in Das Rhinegold, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Hunding in Die Walküre, the title role of Boris Godunov and Boris in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. In October 2019, he demonstrated his strong presence in Japan singing the role of Gremin in Eugene Onegin at the New National Theatre.

He has also made remarkable concert appearances, and especially noteworthy is his solo performance in Shostakovich's Symphony No. 13 Babi Yar with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Muti in September 2018, for which he has won high artistic acclaim. In September 2023, he sang the same work with the musicAeterna and the SWR Sinfonieorchester (the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra) / Estonian National Male Choir under Currentzis. This is his first appearance with the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
