NHK Symphony Orchestra Subscription Series

 

NHK Symphony Orchestra’s 2021/22 subscription series from September 2021 to June 2022 have been finalized with the following details.

 

The NHK Symphony Orchestra was obliged to cancel its 2020/21 season subscription series due to the influence of COVID-19 pandemic, however, we are now planning the 2021/22 season starting from September this year. Here are details of the new season.

 

World renowned conductors including those who are closely associated with the NHK Symphony Orchestra including Chief Conductor Paavo Järvi and Honorary Conductor Laureate Herbert Blomstedt, as well as leading conductors of the world such as Fabio Luisi, Tugan Sokhiev, Christoph Eschenbach and Marek Janowski, will all appear on our podium presenting a wide range of programs. The season also features world’s most renowned soloists including pianists Igor Levit and Alexander Melnikov, violinists Leonidas Kavakos and Hilary Hahn, cellists Nicolas Altstaedt and Daniel Müller-Schott, clarinetist Andreas Ottensamer and trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger. In our new season, we will introduce new concepts while maintaining our usual high standard of gorgeous artists and perfectly planned programs. These include “good value select tickets” to enjoy authentic programs, around “one-hour concert without a break” and “pre-concert chamber music performance” in order to widen opportunities to welcome you to enjoy our concerts more freely. Please be reminded that venue of some of our concerts will be shifted to Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre due to the renovation of NHK Hall.

[Good value select tickets (Web Select 3+) ]

You can receive 8% off the regular ticket price if you purchase single concert tickets for three or more concerts at once from the 9 concerts held in autumn (September to November), winter (December to February) and spring (April to June). Seats and ticket types are of your choice. (Only available at WEB Ticket N-Kyo.)

[Change of time for the second day concerts on Sunday afternoons]
Second day concerts on Sunday afternoons will start at 2:00p.m. First day concerts on Saturday evenings will start at the usual 6:00p.m.

Program B (Suntory Hall)

[Change in number of concerts]
Due to the renovation of Suntory Hall, April 2022 concerts will be cancelled, therefore, there will be 8 first day and second day concerts respectively, instead of 9.

Single concert ticket prices have been revised. Please note that prices vary by concert.
Subscription concert ticket prices will be for 8 concerts based on the usual subscription series ticket prices. Please check the lineup via the link.

[All concerts to be for 60 – 80 minutes without a break]
Duration of all the concerts will be shortened to about 60 – 80 minutes long without a break from the conventional 2 hour duration with an intermission. You can enjoy authentic programs unique to the NHK Symphony Orchestra in a concise but rich format.

 

[More affordable prices for single concert & subscription series concert tickets]
Single concert ticket prices have been revised as 7,400 yen for S to 3,200 yen for D seats (prices for non-subscribers inclusive of tax) so that you can enjoy high quality concerts at more affordable prices, and along with this, prices for subscription series tickets will also be revised.

 

[Change of opening time for 1st day (Friday evening)]
Due to the shortened concert durations, first day concerts on Friday evenings will start at 7:30p.m., 30 minutes later than usual. In this way, you do not have to rush to the concert hall after work, and leave the hall before 9:00 – a new way to enjoy a concert. Second day concerts on Saturday afternoons start at the usual 2:00 p.m.

 

[Pre-concert chamber music performance]
Pre-concert chamber music by the members of the NHK Symphony Orchestra will be performed before the concert of Ikebukuro Program C. It starts at 6:45p.m. on the first day, and 1:15p.m. on the second day on the stage of the hall. Enjoy a 15-minute mini concert at your own seat. You are free to take your seat and exit during the performance.
