Right after winning the Concours international de jeunes chefs d'orchestre de Besançon, a gateway to young conductors, in 2009, Kazuki Yamada rapidly expanded his conducting opportunities in Europe by appearing with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and, in the same year, the Orchestre de Paris to substitute for Michel Plasson. He continued to guest-conduct Europe’s major orchestras including the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Dresdner Philharmonie, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and in the 2014/15 season, he made his debut in the United States, and in Oceania in the 2015/16 season to globally expand his stage.
From 2010 to 2017, he was Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Currently he is Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo and Principal Guest Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
He is also Permanent Conductor of the Japan Philharmonic, Principal Guest Conductor of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Music Director and Chairman of the Philharmonic Chorus of Tokyo and Music Director of Yokohama Sinfonietta, an ensemble he founded while still a student.
His association with the NHK Symphony Orchestra started in 2010 when he was engaged as an assistant conductor of the orchestra for two years to pursue further studies. He then conducted the NHK Symphony Orchestra in 2012 for the first time, and the orchestra’s subscription concerts in 2016 and 2019.
