May 2020 Subscription Concerts to be cancelled

As part of the measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, the NHK Symphony Orchestra will, with regret, call off the May subscription concerts (all 6 concerts in 3 programs). There will be no performance of any kind (including those without audience) and therefore no FM or TV broadcast live or delayed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to those who have been looking forward to the performances, but we ask for your kind understanding.

Tickets for the concerts will be refunded, so please keep the ticket/s you have purchased safe. As for how to receive the refund, either N-kyo guide or the ticket agency where you purchased the ticket/s will be contacting you sometime later.

NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo

  • Paavo Järvi, conductor Paavo Järvi, conductor
    Paavo Järvi celebrates his fifth season as Chief Conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra with a high profile European tour in 2020 including concerts in London, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam, Berlin and Brussels. 2019 also celebrates the start of his tenure as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and his 15th season as Artistic Director of the The Deustche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. In addition to his roles as Conductor Laureate of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony and Music Director Laureate of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Järvi is much in demand as a guest conductor with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Münchner Philharmoniker, London’s Philharmonia, Staatskapelle Berlin and Staatskapelle Dresden. Other guest engagements include the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Wiener Philharmoniker, New York Philharmonic and Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
     
    Paavo Järvi is a dedicated supporter of Estonian composers and Artistic Adviser to the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. Each summer he returns to Estonia to lead the Järvi Conducting Academy and Pärnu Music Festival where he also created the internationally acclaimed Estonian Festival Orchestra. He was awarded the Order of the White Star by the President of Estonia in 2013 for his outstanding contribution to Estonian culture.
     
    With an extensive discography, Paavo Järvi has won a Grammy Award and was named Artist of the Year by both Gramophone and Diapason magazines. He was appointed Commandeur de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture and awarded the Sibelius Medal for his work in bringing greater attention to the Finnish composer’s music during his tenure with the Orchestre de Paris.
     
    Born in Tallinn, Estonia, Paavo Järvi studied percussion and conducting at the Tallinn School of Music. In 1980, he moved to the USA where he continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music and at the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute with Leonard Bernstein.
