NHK Symphony Orchestra tour in Vietnam to commemorate the 45th year of Japan-Vietnam diplomatic relations

NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and the NHK Symphony Orchestra will present concerts in Vietnam in early September 2018 to commemorate the 45th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam. The concerts will be conducted by Michiyoshi Inoue, one of Japan’s leading conductors, and world renowned German violinist Christian Tetzlaff will join as the soloist. The orchestra will give a concert in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s biggest city, on September 5th, and in its capital Hanoi on September 7th, with a program consisting of Symphonie espagnole by Lalo and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.4.

This is the first time for the NHK Symphony Orchestra to perform in Vietnam. However, on several occasions the orchestra has sent musicians to Vietnam to perform as guest players and to provide technical guidance. Furthermore, in 2016, several of its musicians took part in a concert in Hanoi commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam National Academy of Music and gave technical advice to the professional Vietnamese musicians of the orchestra that had been specially assembled to mark the occasion. Such small steps promoting friendly relations have led to the forthcoming tour in Vietnam.

The coming Vietnam tour is the NHK Symphony Orchestra’s first overseas concert tour since the orchestra and ANA Holdings signed a partnership agreement.
