Johann Strauss II (1825 - 1899)

“Rosen aus dem Süden”, waltz op.388 (9')

Strauss II composed the waltz Rosen aus dem Süden (Roses from the South) in 1880. The piece contains melodies from Das Spitzentuch der Königin (The Queen's Lace Handkerchief), an operetta Strauss II wrote in the same year. The waltz remains popular today and is frequently performed at the New Year’s Concert by Wiener Philharmoniker.
